Steppe Pony (HOLIDAY PRINT DROP)

Steppe Pony (HOLIDAY PRINT DROP)
‘Lord of the Steppe’
The vast steppe of the Mongolian Altai Mountains. This white pony was tied up after a long ride, with cloud formations I’d never seen. This image reminds me to keep searching and seeking adventure… experiencing a world unknown is better than living a life known.
Getting the shot…
I went to Mongolia to shoot ONWARD, still one of my proudest projects, with two friends, a camera, and three lenses- no tripod, no support gear. I headed into the vast steppe with nothing but the intention of seeing something I’ve always dreamed of.
A communication mix-up left me without a horse to ride. Soooo, to reach the peaks and shooting locations in the mountains, I had to walk. While the Eagle Hunters rode on their sure-footed horses, my guide dropped me at the base of the mountains to chase my “subjects” AND the light, every day.
The cold was relentless, though. One day, I pulled a water bottle from my backpack only to discover it’d frozen solid. Even inside the huts, we slept fully layered in sub-zero sleeping bags. But standing in that endless landscape, I knew every hardship would be part of the story. Absolutely worth it.
