In 2022, I was brought on to direct a feature documentary and capture still photography for the making of Horizon: An American Saga. A massive opportunity that placed me at the center of an ambitious undertaking led by Kevin Costner. Operating entirely as a one-man crew…yes…without an AC, PA, or DIT, I carried the full weight of production, directing, filming, photographing, and data wrangling in real time under extreme conditions. It was the most demanding job of my career, requiring relentless focus and endurance, yet it offered an unparalleled level of creative freedom and access. I worked side by side with Costner every day, documenting the scale and authenticity of the production, but also absorbed invaluable lessons from a master storyteller, shaping both the work itself and my evolution as a filmmaker. The bonds I formed with the enormous and deeply talented cast and crew granted me rare, intimate access, making many of the images possible only because I was welcomed in rather than observing from the outside.
The images resulted in a 300-page book called, “The Great Horizon,” published through Weldon Owen.
The book was awarded 1st Prize in the Documentary category at the International Photo Awards. CLick here to purchase A copy.
