DH Unplugged

posted in Music, blog, film Monday, June 21, 2010

Back in October of 2009 I shot some in studio stuff for Demon Hunter’s current album “The World Is A Thorn.”

Ryan Clark had an awesome last minute idea to do an acoustic unplugged set with Patrick Judge and Yogi Watts. We used Aaron Sprinkles studio to do the shoot.  A couple of difficulties since it was so last minute.
We didn’t have a master track for any of the acoustic songs they wanted to sing, so they freestyled each song 3 times a piece.  They picked the recording, for each song, that sounded the best and sent it off.

Only problem you have is 3 songs, 3 takes a piece, 1 camera man, and no master track.  So editing became difficult as every couple of seconds the timing would be off from the master track.  The biggest problem I ran into is Yogi changing up how he played drums.  Sometimes he would the ride, then the next take on the crash, and also changing fills.  You will catch editing mistakes here and there but I did best I could.  I really love how their heavy songs transition into acoustic tracks.  I was so happy to be working with them again.  They really are a talented amazing group of guys.

Stryker

posted in Photography, blog Thursday, June 17, 2010

When KROQ calls for a photoshoot, I really expect nothing less than to be photographing someone awesome.   Besides all the inside jokes and heckling I get, I must say I have enjoyed shooting and hanging with everyone on the KROQ staff.

The most recent in studio shoot was done for Stryker.  He is a DJ over at KROQ, but some of you may remember him from “Loveline” w/ Dr. Drew.  He has hosted several shows, acted in feature films, & was also formerly part of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”  Let’s just say Stryker is a hard working talented guy.  Thanks for letting me hang while you worked, I had a good time.

Paramore

posted in Music, Photography, Uncategorized, blog Thursday, June 10, 2010

Last weekend was KROQ WEENIE ROAST 2010!  It was one of my favorite events this past year.  Maybe it was the furry convention, the prom, great friends, running into T_BING or maybe it was just catching Hayley spit the biggest loogie ever.  Now I played baseball for 16 years…so i’ve seen my share of loogs.  Let’s just say she could’ve put them all to shame! Anyways, in the end it was a combination of everything this past weekend that made it so memorable.  Blessed to feel at home with KROQ and their incredible/hardworking staff.  They have been one of my favorite clients, hands down.

Paramore is excellent live.  So much energy and fun.  Here are my favorite from the set.  Btw, Jeremy, good seeing the surprised look when you saw me!
Will be posting more soon of other bands from Weenie Roast.

Mentawai BTS Short

posted in Photography, Travel, blog, film Wednesday, June 09, 2010

After almost 1 year, Joey spent last week losing sleep over editing this short doc. The result is a 17 minute piece  over our journey with The Mentawai.  The video seriously just zooms by. There is insight on our trip, the people, the culture, and some shooting with Joey. It is seriously a trip that I still can’t believe happened. There is so much more that went on but we will save that for next time. Joey, Will, and I are all wanting to venture back there soon and do something more in depth.

I am so pumped Vimeo “premiered” it on their HD page! It’s my first video they have picked to premier, so thank you Vimeo! It helped the 17 min video get near 20k plays in just 3 days of being online! Check it out sometime when you guys get a chance.

Earlier this year I posted a video of just visuals from the trip. Video below.

If you would like to read up in depth about the entire trip, with tons of photos, click the links below.

Thanks again Joey and Will. Trip of a lifetime. Can’t wait to do it again.
