I am pretty sure this should be my new nickname.  I always say my schedule is busy and kinda hectic, but this past month has seriously tested me on my those words.

Baseline I am editing Relient K’s studio/tour documentary, which has only taken longer than Demon Hunter’s 45 days, and RK is 45 minutes shorts….coincidence.  I am VERY excited about it.  I am happy with the end product.  The story, the footage, and esp the SOUND, which I concentrated on so much more with this piece.  I am excited for you guys to see it.  In between editing and getting feedback, I spent an amazing trip in New York, a shoot with Bleeding Through, and a 3 day shoot with MTV.  I am also in process of finishing up a Tiger Army project.   All of this work is spiraling down a funnel and it is seriously at the very end.  I leave tomorrow for Oklahoma, and I was finally given word that the Indonesia trip ,that has been on and off,  is definitely on now.  So going home tomorrow, and leaving for Indonesia on Aug 7th.  When I go to Indonesia, I will be without use of my cellphone and email for 3 full weeks.  I am very nervous, but my excitement is definitely triumphant.  I will be going with JoeyL and Willem to live with a tribe and of course document the experience.

I found out yesterday I leave the country in 9 days, for almost a month, and I have quite a list of things to do.  Will I finish everything before I go?  Yes, you can count on it.  They call me Crunch…..Cap’n Crunch.

Would appreciate if you guys prayed for JoeyL, Willem and I.
This trip is going to be very intense and difficult, but an experience of a lifetime nonetheless.
My b-day is Aug 1st.  What a way to start out 23.

Last week I went to Brooklyn, New York to shoot with my buddy Joey L.  He asked me to come shoot the interviews for the lighting DVD he is putting together.  If you are interested about getting into photography, and want to learn lighting.  This is definitely something you need to keep your eye open for.  Definitely a lot of content that will teach you important things you need to know.  Also as part of the DVD, he thought it would be funny to make 2 music videos about photography.  I shot both videos for him, one called “Get Flashed” and one called “Nikon Girl.”  Needless to say they are absolutely hilarious.  Their like SNL digital shorts.  They were recorded professionally by his friend Kent, so the sound is legit also.  We filmed all over New York….Brooklyn Bridge, Rooftops, parks, graffiti walls and Coney Island.  We saw fights, hit & runs, rats, wrecks, and chola chicks.  I don’t think I have ever been honked at so many times in my life.  It was a lot of work, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat.  Think the funniest part was seeing people’s reactions in public, when Joey and Will would just bust out some hard rap wearing those gold camera chains.  The videos will hopefully release in August.  I have seen a couple previews and they are looking fly!

We shot every bit of 3+ days.   It was interesting stepping out of my comfort zone, not only from a personality perspective, but a shooting perspective.  Everything was spontaneous, so I just show up and make the best of it.   At night after shooting we would hang on Joey’s roof in downtown Brooklyn.  His buddies Brayden, Kent, and Will were all down from Canada, and I honestly don’t think I have laughed so hard.  I feel so blessed to do what I do, in I get to have experiences like that and actually make a living from it.

Some stills below.  Still hoping to get more soon.

Me, Joey, and Will.  yes check out them gold cameras.  So fly.

Getting that lighting just right.

Mmmm thats more like it.

Who knew filming a map could be so enjoyable?

Canon Gangster JoeyL.

Filming a scene in Brooklyn for “Get Flashed.”  All those kids were just at the park, and we got them to be in the video.
They were skeptical at first, but after I showed them footage, they got really excited.  So awesome.

After finishing shoot on Brooklyn Bridge.  From left to right.  Yours truly, Kent, JoeyL, Will, Brayden.

***On a side note, Joey let me have one of the gold camera’s to take home as a prop.  At the airport, of course I got selected for a search(11th time in 2 years).  The TSA agent was looking through my bag when he came across the gold camera.  Keep in mind I am running SUPER late as it is.  He slowly grabs it and holds it up, looks at the other agents and then to me.  “What is this sir?”  I said, “It is a video prop, I was in New York shooting two video about photography, and it’s like camera bling.  It’s a joke.”  He just sits there, stares at the camera, then back to me and says…”So it’s kinda like flava flav?”  I just laughed and said “yes, exactly like flava flav.”  Then he started laughing and let me go.  I barely made my flight.  I actually put my belt back on in the plane.  Good times.***

Thanks to JoeyL for bringing me out. Thanks to  Will, Brayden, Kent, and Hayley for all your help.  Definitely couldn’t have done it without you guys.
See you guys soon.

Bleeding Through

Last Wednesday I went to Orange County to do a last minute shoot for the band Bleeding Through.  I have been so busy with video, it was my first actual set up photo shoot in at least 5 months.  I was a bit nervous.  Schedule was really closed up, so I only had a short amount of time to photograph them.  My only option was to show up to their practice space and make the best of it I can.  Arrived at 8pm and started setting up.  I did a couple shots outside and then the individuals inside on one of their couches.  Shoot ended up being only an 1 1/2 hours from beginning to end.  Crazy part is, they needed the promos completed by the next morning.  So Brandan(of Bleeding Through) chose photos right there on the spot.  I went home, raw processed and edited 4 photos.  Then early the next morning I edited the individuals.  After I got finished editing, I had to rush to the airport to make my flight to New York.  I was the last person to board the plane.  Nothing like last minute.  Here are the promos they chose. (Including the above photo again)

The very next day after the promos were sent in, they made their way onto the front page of AP magazine website, Rise Records, and in Bleeding Through’s layout. Think that is the quickest my photos have gone from taking, to publication.  Thanks Mr. Downey for making the shoot happen, and to Bleeding Through for letting me do it.  I appreciate it guys.

Hope everyone is doing well!
New York blog post coming this week……stay tuned.

Murrieta Fire

Last week I was outside, giving my eyes a much needed break from this Relient K project, when I noticed a large stack of smoke billowing from behind our office space.  Downey and I walked around the corner and noticed the hills behind us were ablaze.  Needless to say it was AWESOME.  Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me, so I drove home as quickly as I could.  By the time I had gotten home, it was completely raining ash.  Not even the sun, in all it’s unparalleled power, could penetrate through the dark compressed smoke.  I made it home, grabbed my gear and headed right for the fire.  I stopped right down the street from my house to snap a few pics of the onlookers.  Shortly after, my roommate and I drove towards the hill.  Helicopters and planes marched overhead in choreographed fashion, ejecting their ammunition cache of water bombs on the ferocious beast.  : )  The fire never stopped in stride.    We came to a police roadblock, not allowing anyone any further.  There is always another way!  Adam and I drove down until we found a parking lot we could drive in that would circle around the roadblock and let us out just on the other side….so of course we took it.  As we approached the hill, the smoke consumed our throats and forced tears from our eyes.  We decided it was a little too close, so we drove just north of the fire about half a mile where we watched the fire slowly be extinguished.  I got out my video camera and started filming.  Check out the video below.  Turn your sound up!  Although some people would just see the fire for what it is.  I saw it dramatically unfold.  There is beauty in everything, you just need to slow down, open your eyes and appreciate it.

Hope everyone is doing well!
