While in the studio with Relient K for just over 4 weeks, I snapped quite a few photos in between filming.  I recently found out they had posted a lot of my studio photos as the background of their new website.  The photos change each time you refresh the page.  It is my understanding they will be adding more photos to the site as time goes on.  Go check it out!  Here are some of the photos on the website plus more!  PS – 4th webisode coming SOON. To see the other webisodes CLICK HERE!

So rad you can be in the studio with a group for over 4 weeks and them not get sick of you filming or taking their pictures. More photos coming soon along with Webisode 4!

Relient K Tour Post 1

Well I hit the road last Tuesday with Relient K.  Met up in Pomona, Ca for a where I am touring for a little over a week.  I haven’t been on a tour since last year this time with DH.  Something about being on the road is so refreshing.  New people, new places, something new EVERY DAY.  Something about mystery entices me as I am sure it does everyone.  Not have a REAL daily schedule is freeing.  I am very thankful for getting this opportunity with RK.  Some of the coolest guys I have met, band and crew.   They are just killing the shows.  The crowds have been so packed, and they sing EVERY word.  I get the chills.  They are playing two new songs off their upcoming record, which is very good on the ears.  Highlight so far was Pomona.  Jered Scott, and Andy Barron were there, along with my roomie Joseph.   Met Tom Wilson, along with Ethan’s family, and some rad hangouts at In-N-Out after the show.  Dang good way to start off hitting the road.

The above photo is of Ethan Luck at “The Dome” in Bakersfield, Ca.  I waited a good while for the ceiling to be exposed enough to capture. Not an hdr or composite.  Below is a photo of Peter from Runner Runner.  Very solid dude.  He was hanging out under the sign and I just snapped a couple real quick.

Definitely putting my new camera to use.  Feeling very positive about the footage I am getting.  Cinematic and photographic. Be posting in the next day or so!  No news lately as to work.  I have 4 potential jobs at stake.  All would take place near the same time.  God is good. Whatever comes, I will do the dang best I can do, even if I don’t get the job at the top of my list.

Hope everyone is doing well. I have a lot of stuff to post about.  Be keeping your eyes busy for the next week.  Thanks for checking back. Family and friends I love and miss you.  Thanks for your everlasting supply of love and support.  Hope to see you guys soon.

Puerto Canon

Last week was great.  I spent it “working” on a military instilation on the island.  I have never really explained this to anyone.  This tower job is seriously the most random line of media I produce, but it is definitely one of my favorite jobs.  There is a steel company from Oklahoma that needed a major overhaul on their website.  They hired me on a long term basis to go, when needed, to one of their tower locations and photograph the crews working.  The bes part about it all, is the towers are all next to oceans.  So after I get over the initial scare of heights, I just absolutely enjoy the breath taking view.  Working for this company has taken me to Puerto Rico 3 times, Hawaii, Japan, and soon to be Iceland.  Another cool thing is being subcontracted by the Military due to them being their towers.  I provide them (Airforce, Coastguard, Navy) with the photos from the towers.  The Airforce has actually used some of my photos, which is totally rad.  The above photo I was hanging over the edge at 1200ft to snap a shot of the President of the steel company.  The whole time I was hanging over the edge, my stomach was in my throat.  It is one giant rush of adrenalin.

This was the same location on the tower.  I took this one specifically for my mom!  She was scared about the harnesses holding me to the tower, so I wanted to prove how they work.  So I hooked on, and I am actually leaning over the edge.  See Mom, if the harness wasn’t working I would’ve been falling.  Hahaha I am awful, I am sorry mom.

I am actually embarrassed to say, my new camera hadn’t arrived before I left for Puerto Rico so I had to shoot with the Presidents NIKON.  ughhhhhhhhh.

But good news, I came home to my new camera!!! Canon 1ds Mark III
A couple small things I am excited about.
- Duel Digic III processors
- Self Cleaning
- True Pro Body
- Completely weather sealed
- Dust Delete Data
- 45 point TTL
- 19 cross points
- 63 zone metering, linked to 19 focus points
- Up to 7 shot auto bracketing!!! (amazing for true HDR)
- Noise Reduction on 1 second + exposures.
- 100% frame coverage
- Transforms into CAMERABOT to save and protect the world (see below)

I also finally found a car.  Don’t have to stress about getting from point A to point B anymore.
Went with Nicole and we acted like we were a couple.  It was priceless.  Found a car and really got an amazing deal on it.  Car dealers really are trying to get rid of cars.

God has been blessing me with a full schedule of work, I am very thankful.  Still waiting to hear back on my dream project.  It is in the tips of my fingers.  Ugh, being patient sucks.  I leave today for another week.  Headed out with Relient K!  See you guys.

It is hard to think a year ago this week, I was heading off to to shoot/direct my first documentary.  It was for a band called Demon Hunter.  My website was randomly found by Ryan Clark, and based off 2 small videos I did(down below) he inquired me about shooting their next tour.  I was not only nervous about the size of the project and how much work it would consist of, but the fact it was Demon Hunter and I would be working with 4 time grammy nominees Ryan and Don Clark (Invisible Creature).  Imagine sitting down with someone whose work you have respected for years and he says, “Cale, just do your thing.  We trust you.”  Unbelievable weight hit me, and at the same time inspiration.  Be real, I was extremely skeptical about taking on the project solely by myself.  I started to psych myself out before the tour even started. The next 6 1/2 weeks I shot non stop in hopes to produce something that would help launch my aspirations of becoming a serious filmmaker.  The hardest part of it was finding eye enhancing locations.  Arrive in a new city and immediately try to find cinematic places to shoot.  That is when the real trouble began.  Finding a beautiful place that was also quiet enough to get audio.  Everyday I was in a new city, with a new problem.  NOISE NOISE NOISE.  The world is soooooo loud.  Personally it is what I am most disappointed in overall.  I won’t try and justify it.  The audio suffered, however I did learn tremendously on what to do next time around.  When I got home, I beat myself up for 2 weeks trying to figure out how to start the piece.  I had near a terabyte of video footage to sift through along with over 10,000 photos.  I spent over 700 hours in front of my monitors piecing it together.  I ended up making 4 revisions myself before even sending the first rough cut to Demon Hunter.  Luckily they loved the rough cut and NO changes were made(I was so sick of looking at it).  It was one of the most accomplished feelings I have ever had in my life.   Since then I have shot 2 more documentaries (neither released yet) and a couple more in the works.  It boosted my self confidence and led into me working at SuperHeroHQ w/ Ryan Downey.  The tour is something I will never forget.  Thank you  Jon, Yogi, Ethan, Don and Ryan.  Thanks for giving me a chance to show what I was put here to do.  It will never be forgotten.

The dvd dropped nationwide last November.
I spent almost 5 months as a hole devoted to this project.
Pick it up(CLICK HERE)if you haven’t already.
Here is the trailer.

Here are the 2 videos I have to thank.
Facts about these videos.

-They were both shot in the same day, within a couple of hours.
-Both were shot the 1st time I ever used my Red Rock 35mm Adapter.
-They were shot out of boredom.
-They were obviously free.

Last Week

Well this past week has been a roller coaster to say the least.

EVENTS FROM LAST WEEK
-
My vehicle is in a shop over an hour away from where I live.  I was without a vehicle.
- Got invited by Mark to witness Blink-182 play their first show in years.
- Caught guy trying to cheat me on a new car I was going to buy.
- 3 job opportunities in 1 day.
- Wasting $700 to fix my vehicle, only for the same problem to start repeating itself 25 minutes down the road.
- Private show included Weezer, DJ-AM and TRVS, Blink-182, special appearance by Warren G (<—-click to view what song he performed)!  Oh did I mention free Jack?
- Staying 1 day turned into 3 days, I only had 1 pair of clothes….gross I know.
- Good hangs with Megan T. Jered S. Mark H. & Allison N.
- So eager after Megan and I visited Mark.

All in all, everything happens for a reason.  At this point in life I am on such a high, that all the negative crap lately has just washed away.  I can’t help but be happy seeing my dreams unfold. This past week is considerably one of the best I have ever had.  Ever since the show I have been flooded with more ideas.  A brain explosion of ideas and inspiration. BRING IT ON WORK!

Thanks Megan for picking me up and letting me stay with you and your roomies.  Excited for what is to come.
Thanks Mark for inviting me to the show!

Here are some pics by Megan Thompson.

Now some from Jered Scott

Great job guys.

Hope everyone is well!
New Relient K webisode coming soon!

Back in California now working away.  The video finally surfaced from the USB octopus drives Mark has been shelling out.  Mark remixed a Fall out Boy song, and they only made 100 special flashdrives to release the content on.  This is the video I shot that made it on the drives!  So stoked he actually used it.  Shoot was a couple hours long with Megan Thompson, glad I had enough footage to piece something together.  Well nothing too elaborate to say about it.  Hope to work with Mark again very soon!

Here is a link to some of the drives.  CLICK ME

Enjoy!

Emotional

Pretty emotional night for me.  I handed my camera off to Mr. Ethan Luck. He takes awesome pics, and will definitely do great things with that camera. This was my 1st professional camera, and 2nd camera to ever own.  That thing took me places I dreamed of.  To acquire that camera, I actually sold my car.  Funny thing is, I had a crappy car, so I actually had to borrow a grand from my dad as well…..Yeah all that for a camera.  I took my mother to work every morning at 7am for 8 months, just so I could use her car to go photograph clients and save money.  After 8 months I saved up enough to buy a vehicle and pay my dad back.  The camera is in a good home now, and I will be receiving my new camera next week.

Sigh, I am sad to see it go, but it was time.
Thanks dad and thanks mom  for believing in me.

Farewell 5d, take care of her Ethan.
