I was over at Scott Kelby’s blog when I came across todays post.
Zack Arias was the featured guest blogger.  He talks about his winter doldrums and the ever going battle of comparison, that we  so helplessly find ourselves engaged in.
He had a way of putting it that not only can be attached to photographers, but for any of you seeking careers out there in creative fields.  I have watched it 3 times already.  Please take the time and check it out.  Go visit Zack’s Website, and peep his work.

Thanks for the inspiration Zack.  I have a large archive of photographs from when I started out.  They make me cringe.  Maybe I’ll post some in a blog one day.

Well I leave for Japan in a few days and in light of the trip, I had to post this.  The Japanese Office.  Amazing.

Also I am sure you have all heard about Christian Bale freaking out on the set of Terminator.  Well Family Guy decided to poke a little fun in their latest episode.  You have to listen.  AMAZING.

How would you react to someone talking to you that way?  I am interested in hearing your opinions.

Sorry it has been a week or so without a post.  I just finished up working 2 weeks in Joplin, Missouri on some short films.
I will be posting photos and more information very soon.  Thanks for staying tuned.

Here are a few shots from the Puerto Rico trip, part 2.

Hope you aren’t claustrophobic.  15 minute ride, this is my wide angle lens, and it still looks small.

Yeah no smiles this time.  Sure was fun though.

This is what I see from the top.  HOLY COW.  So freaking beautiful.  God is quite the creative one.  This pan was compused of 5 images.

And last my fav photo. This was composed of 5 shots.

These guys are working at the very top of the 1200ft tower, standing on nothing but wooden planks.  The top of the tower is circular.  It is about 15 ft in diameter.  Very small.  **Notice the coast on the far left and right of this photo.  That is actually the same coast in the 1st pan.  Let that sit on your brain for a little bit.

**The first photo on the blog, the 3 steel workers.  I am actually kneeling on one of the planks so I could take the photo from a higher angle.  Even though I was strapped to the tower, every time the wind blew my stomach rose to my chest.  Anything for the shot I want.

I recenelty came across these videos from SNL, and I can’t stop watching them.  Even though they are just a joke, the production is very well done.  Love em.  Sorry for the language.

My fav of the 3.

This one completely caught me off guard.

So good!

SUPERHERO

Well I think it is finally time to clear up my current situation.  Some of you know I am moving, some of you know about the new job, and some of you don’t know anything really.  Well, here it goes.

A few days after New Years, after I deemed this year “get your career in line, in 2009,”  I get a call from Mr. Ryan Downey.  We had a great discussion which resulted in offering me a job as Production Manager for SUPERHERO.  This is nothing short of God at work.  Ryan is the founder of SUPERHERO, and he just happened to manage Demon Hunter.  If any of you consider yourself my friend or even know me, should know I shot a documentary for them in 2008 titled “45days.”  It only consumed 6 months of 2008….

Well Ryan was very pleased with the documentary and he just so happened to be looking for a production manager.  It is if I had fallen in his lap.  SUPERHERO works with very big clients, and Ryan himself has an astounding Resume.  It is an honor to be working for him.  He wanted me to move as soon as I could but due to pre-existing obligations and work, the move has been pushed back til March, which is in less than a month.   I would be lying if I told you I knew exactly what I would be doing out there, but all I know is I will be shooting video, shooting photos, and working for an oustanding guy.  For once I am going to have my own office, which I am extremely giddy about.  My office with SUPERHERO will be located in Murrieta, Ca.  It is located about halfway between SD and LA, which I am compltely content with.  I definitely don’t mind being outside the chaos of LA living.

I ask you all pray for me/keep me in your thoughts.  This is going to be a big change, and very soon.  This is my last month home before I move and I only have 4 days off.  Finish CIY,  have 4 days off, go to Japan, come home, move 2 days later.  The hardest part will be missing my friends, family, and the community group we just started.  Please pray for strength and that God will put some awesome people in my life out there….esp a church.   Thank you all for your comments, support, and encouragement.  If it weren’t for all your inspiration, I wouldn’t have ever picked up a camera.  I have worked so hard to get somewhere and then this opportunity came out of left field.  It is a dream come true.  Let me not get lazy now, but work even harder.  God gives us great opportunity for a reason! I can’t see what he has in store.

Also, I will be taking visitors….as soon as I move.  : )
Jeez, I am bummed now thinking about missing everyone. : (

CIY

Well it is that time of year again I travel on over to Joplin, Missouri to start filming for CIY.  We are shooting 5 short films again this year, in a short 2 weeks.  These two weeks are usually two of the best weeks I have all year(knock on wood). I can’t even explain how much joy it brings me to work with this company.  I have seen unexplainable things happen at their summer conferences.  One in particular where I actually made the commitment to follow Christ.  One film will be played each night of the 5 day conference.  Roughly 20,000-25,000 kids attend every summer.  Being a part of the process, in hopes these films will transform lives, even just one, excites me incredibly.  The crew is headed up by Director MD Neely, mizzzzz, who has been more like a brother/mentor more than anything.  He has had major influence on me as a person, and my career as a whole.  I am very thankful for him, and CIY.  Derek is just manly behind the camera, that guy comes up with these shots that just blow me away.  Chad and Eric are two of the the funniest dudes I have ever met.  I wish I could think on my feet as well as they can.  Terry “macGruuuuber” makes Macgyver’s skills look elementary.  He can build things out of nothing almost instantly.  I always learn a couple tricks when working with him.  I wish Lane Moss ,aka:busted take, was going to be there.  He always gives MD someone to yell at!  Staying with my good friend Blake Pirtle.  I am sincerely thankful your family takes me in everytime I come to Joplin.  I am truely grateful the civility and hospitality your family grasciously gives me.  Great great crew, great friends, good times ahead.  I will try to update as much as I can.

Here are some pics from last year’s shoots.

An extra didn’t show up, so I got to take their place.  Nice.

Never thought shooting stuffed animals could be so difficult.

Redrock M2 eats too much light!

By far, coldest video shoot I have been on.  10 degrees with a strong wind.  It was even cold watching the monitors inside.

hahahahahaha, good times.

Be safe all, be home in 2 weeks.  Then JAPAN.
Be praying everything goes smooth with these shoots.
